Bouts, Bowls, and Brews

This last Saturday, the 9th of May, we had a double header with SORG down in Medford. The juniors bouted first. We only had 5 juniors that were able to go, so their bout was mixed, with SORG juniors and Candy Stripers on each team. Evenly matched teams resulted in an exciting bout where the red team won by only 1 point.

The adults bouted next. Sick Town surprised everybody as we haven’t been able to practice in our rink for a year due to its ongoing repair work. But Sick Town stayed together as a team and had a great time, winning 279 to 88. Thank you SORG and all your volunteers for your hard work in hosting the bout!

We are still in the process of repairing our rink. We are making progress – concrete for the new support posts is scheduled to be poured next week – so hopefully we’ll be back in soon. But there is still a lot that needs to be done, and we can’t do it without your help. We have two opportunities coming up where you can make a difference in bringing the Sick Town bouts back to town!

1) Bid, Bowl, and Beer is happening Saturday. Come check out the awesome items being auctioned off. (Tickets to OMSI and whale-watching trips? Restaurant gift certificates? A contractor for a day? Yes, please!) Then come bid, bowl, and have some brews.

2) Flat Tail Brewing is hosting a dineout for Sick Town. It is happening Monday, May 18 from 11AM to 11PM. Just print out the flyer, and show it to your server: 40% of the proceeds will go to support our efforts in renovating the rink.

It’s a Busy Two Weekends for Sick Town

This weekend, May 9, Sick Town Derby Dames and the Candy Stripers are headed down to Medford to bout with SORG. It will be a fun-filled weekend for the teams and we can hardly wait!

Next weekend, May 16, is our auction event of the year. Come bowl and bid on some fabulous items, Saturday May 16 at Highland Bowl between 5 and 8PM. Advanced tickets $12, at the door $15. Auction closes at 6:30, so be early!

And last, but not least, print out the above flyer for our Flat Tail Brewery dineout fundraiser. Come get some good food and spirits at Flat Tail anytime between 11AM and 11PM on Monday, May 18. Show this flyer to your server and Flat Tail will donate 40% of the proceeds to Sick Town.

Remember Skating at the Old Rink?

When we bought the rink, we also ended up buying some of the old discarded skates that never got thrown out. What to do with them? Well, how about sell them at the auction? We took 21 of the nicest looking skates, painted them in Sick Town colors and planted them with succulents.

Succulents are easy to care for since they really don’t like to get much water, and they can spruce up the place. Make sure you have an opportunity to purchase one of these nostalgic planters by buying your tickets early, as tickets are limited.

  • Advance tickets through Brown Paper Tickets: $12
  • Tickets purchased at the door: $15
  • Kids 8 and under are FREE!

We have had many generous donors, mostly our local businesses, to help support us with many fantastic items. Please thank them for supporting us and our community by shopping at their businesses.

Bid, Bowl and Beer

Come have some fun bowling and bidding on some fantastic items in our silent auction while helping raise funds for renovating Sick Town’s historic roller rink.

What: Come enjoy an evening of fun – bowling, silent auction and beer (and cider)
When: May 16, 5-8pm
Where: Highland Bowl at 2123 NW 9th St, Corvallis
Why: To raise funds to revamp our historic rink

The rink has been an important part of our community for generations. But it was built in 1923 and its roof is in need of repairs. While we’re at it, we’d also like to increase the size of the rink so that we can host our bouts for you.

We’re going to be auctioning off some fabulous stuff! A small sample includes “A Contractor for a Day” ($600 value), handmade crafts, a pencil portrait from Dan and Mae Hitchcock (who painted the mural at Jerry’s Muffler in Corvallis) and a show by Darcelle XV in Portland.

If you would like to donate something to be auctioned off, please let us know!

Red Dress Party 2015, Better Than Ever

The Red Dress Party 2015 was fun for all. The dresses were amazing and everybody had a great time.

This year we had more attendees than ever before making this party a huge success for both the fun factor and for fundraising. The proceeds from this event will go to help renovate the old rink to expand it so that we can once again bring you the bouts that you’re looking forward to. The Polar Plunge was a Success!

polar plunge group

We had a good turnout and a great time. Better yet, we helped raise funds for a great cause, the Special Olympics. It started out raining, but stopped just in time for the costume contest. And even though the rain held off, we still got wet.

The Corvallis Polar Plunge raised $42,375. WRD raised $1,026 of that total. We even got in the Corvallis Gazette Times with a quote from Vengie. There is nothing more satisfying than helping others and we’re so glad to be able to do so. Thank you to everybody who helped with this event!

PB and JAM!
